Goodwins analysis

The six points of Goodwins anaylsis are:

  • Genre characteristics
  • Visuals and lyrics
  • Visuals and music
  • Need to sell artist
  • Intertextuality
  • Voyeurism
I watched the video for Air Hostess by Busted, a pop rock band popular from 2002 to 2005. From this, I then made notes on each of the six elements of Goodwins analysis.

Genre Characteristics
There is a strong narrative.
It's a mainstream pop rock video.

Visuals/lyrics
The narrative goes with the literal lyrics, there is an air hostess in the video and it's filmed on a plane and airport/runway.

Visuals/music
The video has been edited so that there are cuts between footage on the beat.
There are changes in location when the pace in the music changes.

Selling the artist
There is no changes in costume throughout the video which is uncommon for a music video.
The shots are mostly close up's of each band members or all three of them. This shows that they're in a band together and shows off their talent; playing instruments and singing.

Intertextuality
The song was inspired by flight attendants which Busted saw on tour.
It was also promoted by shows such as Top of the Pops Saturday, MOM, Popworld, CD:UK, Friday night with Jonathan Ross, TRL and Simply the best.

Voyeurism
There are a lot of close up shots of the Air Hostesses particularly on their face and parts of their body such as their legs.
