Mise en scene for three different genres of music videos

Pop: Neon Jungle - Trouble

Costume: The costumes worn in this video by the members of the band are mostly bright and colourful. I would describe what they're wearing as dressy casual as their outfits are not something you would were on a day to day basis.

Colour: Again, a lot of the outfits worn are bright which helps the band members to stand out on plain backgrounds such as the one below. 

Lighting: The lighting on a lot of the shots throughout the video often create a bright, summer glow. In

the shot on the right, the lighting has been positioned so that there is a spotlight on her, helping her to stand out.

Location: This music video is set down a road, and mostly the garden and inside of a large house giving it the feel of a house party.

Make up and props: All the band members in this music video have very heavy make up and bright lipstick. Their hair is all done up and they are wearing accessories such as jewellery. All of this is to help stand out and give the feel of a house party.

Country: Taylor Swift - Mean

Costume: At the beginning of this video, Taylor is wearing a simple white dress and similar coloured pair of shoes. After the chorus, she has a costume change and is wearing another dress that's black and white with matching shoes and a head accessory. This looks quite traditional and country-like which goes with the genre as well as her narrative of the song. In the last few shots of her up on stage she has also had a costume change again, into a traditional white dress.

Colour: The colours are very simple and dark, mostly whites, browns and black. Bright colours aren't seen very often in this video apart from on little parts such as the bow on the girls dress or the colours of the bunch of flowers seen towards the end of the video.

Lighting: At first, the lighting is quite dull and low then as the chorus begins, the lights become brighter. Then as we get further on throughout the video more lighting is used such as when the girl gets a spotlight put on her.

Set: It is set in a country location shown by the use of outfits, dull coloured hats and shirts with braces, and props set in the background such as bails of hay.

Make up and Props: As I mentioned above, the other people in this music video have accessories such as hats and braces, shown below, which gives the country feel to the video. Taylor Swift's make up is very simple along with her which is just in a plait.

Indie pop: Loveable Rogues - What a Night

Costume: Similar to Neon Jungle's video, I would say what they are wearing is dressy-casual as they're wearing shirts and jeans, something they'd wear to a party.

Lighting: There is a mixture between really dark lighting and really bright, such as on the shots of just the three band members with the graffiti background, it often starts off with dark lighting which brightens. In the party shots, there is also a lot of bright, colourful flashing lights.

Location: There two locations throughout this video, the first being in front of a graffiti wall and the other being inside and outside of this house giving us the idea that it's a house party.

Make up and Props: The girls shown throughout the video are dressed up with heavy make-up and their hair done, again emphasising the fact it's a party. Props are simple such as the band members guitars and then there's pillows, balloons, confetti, etc.
