Research for digi-pak

We have looked at some existing digi-paks to give us an idea on what we can do for our project. Below, we have thought about the mise en scene of the images we will take for it, what the font will look like and if we plan to overlay textures.

The first example we looked at was for pop artist, Katy Perry.

We noticed that there is a constant theme of sugary foods such as sweets, cupcakes and candy floss. The colours also go along with the theme as there are three main ones, pink, blue and red that are carried throughout the whole digi-pak.

There are images of the artist herself within the digi-pak but not every section of it has one.

There is an occurring background colour/image for both the outside and inside of the digi-pak. The outside uses a light coloured image of a candy floss cloud with Katy Perry lying on the very front cover.

The inside of the digi-pak is then contrasted by a dark background being carried through when it is opened up. This looks effective as there is still a common theme, but a change in the feel and location.

Another digi-pak example that we took a look at was for another pop artist, Britney Spears. For her digi-pak, there is a theme that runs throughout that resembles glitter and diamonds. As you can see for the front cover and part of the inside, a sparkly beaded door curtain is used to create this effect. It also looks like there is a bright shining light printed as the CD cover which goes with the theme. On the CD cover, the silver, shiny font further emphasises the theme.

Similar to Katy Perrys digi-pak, there is also two sections in which there is an image of Britney. She is wearing dark gold and purple in both images. These colours are repeated in the background of all the images used and on the actual CD.


Overall, when it comes to taking photos and creating our digi-pak, we plan to carry on a colour theme and possibly include objects that help emphasise the theme and the pop genre we wish to convey.
