Magazine ad from sbop-media
I looked at two existing magazine adverts for two popular artists, Jessie J and Ellie Goulding.
Whilst doing this, I noticed that their ad's contained all the relevant information their audience need to know about their new album but there was no information on price or where their album could be purchased. This may be because the two ad's I took a look at were possibly from before they had decided on a release date. Prices may also vary depending on what shop customers buy it from but often on magazine ad's for albums, there is a price for how much it costs to download from the app store.
I also noticed that for both magazine adverts, there is a specific colour scheme that runs throughout the ad. Such as Jessie J's has used whites, black and gold. By having a white background, the image of Jessie J stands out in contrast to this and grabs the attention of viewers. She has used a gold for the colour of her name in a big, bold font. Again, this stands out in contrasts to the black clothing she is wearing. The information on the album name and containment of tracks is in a mixture of white and gold colours which is again to make it readable for the audience. Jessie J's music is mainly focused around the pop and hip-hop genre and is emphasised through the colour scheme used throughout her ad. For example, the gold colour has connotations of glitter and glam which both link to the pop genre. She has also used a lot of black and white throughout which link to the hip-hop side of Jessie J's music.
Furthermore, Ellie Goulding has chosen to use similar colours to Jessie J but in different proportions. In her magazine advert, there is a lot of more usage of gold colours in comparison to black. In this advert, Ellie is wearing dark clothing which has been partly overlaid by the information on her new album written in white text. Similar to Jessie J's magazine advert, Ellie Goulding, has also chosen to make the title of her album and her name in a large font which stands out of the whole image. Like Jessie J's ad, the large amounts of gold usage gives the viewer the impression that a lot of Ellie Gouldings music is focused on the pop genre.
Overall, from this research we plan to create a magazine advert for our product with a strong colour scheme that will run throughout. We may choose to use an array of bright colours or possibly a simple gold touch to the main image and either black or white for a font. We are also planning on experimenting with the different font choices and will look for a large but also feminine font.
