The marking criteria for level four is:
- Shooting material appropriate to the task set; including controlled use of the camera, attention to framing, variety of shot sizes and close attention to mise en scene.
- Editing so that meaning is apparent to the view and making selective and appropriate use of shot transitions, captions and other effects.
- Recording and editing sound with images appropriately.
We showed our video to four groups of our media class who understand the task we have been set. Below is the feedback we have received:
Good points
- Good use of split screen.
- Humorous and comedic.
- Interesting and clear narrative.
- Good use of speeding up shots.
- The pace and camera angles were good.
Bad points
- Lip syncing goes out towards the end.
- Too dark.
- Performance needs a more of a variety of shots.
- May need colour correction and filters.
- Needs brightening.
- Lighting could be more focused on the singers faces.
- If we have time, could put foley sound in the beginning.
In response to this, we believe that we need to focus a lot of our efforts on improving our lighting in several shots. We had attempted to adjust the brightness and contrast so that the lighting was increased but the image didn't look natural, so given the opportunity to re-film, we plan to make sure our torch is fully charged so that we can change particular shots in our music video to be more clear and visible.
When we re-film, we also plan to take more of a variety of shots taken from different angles so that it makes our music video visually interesting for the audience. For example, we have thought about taking another two cuts of Siobhan and Brianna lip-syncing from a side angle and a close up.
Furthermore, when editing the footage we take on the second day of filming, we will adjust the placement of the footage in Premiere Pro so that the lip-syncing of the girls is in time and looks more realistic. There are some parts in the footage that we had forgotten the lyrics in and therefore we plan to put short, snappy shots to cover these mistakes up.
